What is Trellis?

Trellis offers a learning management system (LMS). The software provides options to generate learning content, structure courses as well as support training seminars.

Learning.net which developed Trellis is focused on designing and implementing solutions for learning & training. The company’s goal is to help companies improve employee productivity by aligning all learning programs with both training and business objectives.

Who is it best for?

Trellis is a cross industry solution meant to address the learning and training requirements of any size of company. The product is offered as a cloud based solution easily accessible via the web or through mobile devices such as smart phones & tablets. It can also be installed as an on-premise solution.

The software offers a Tin Can API which captures learning data in a consistent format from many technologies. This means that the Trellis LMS can go beyond traditional training and consider multiple learning routes such as social & mobile learning, collaborative learning, simulations, experiential learning, videos, and other non-traditional sources of knowledge and education.

In addition Trellis is integrated with a “Sharable Content Object Reference Model” or SCORM Engine that lets online learning content and LMSs communicate with each other so that the necessary information can be obtained from courses. Both these options are good for companies looking for effective training content delivery.

For companies that do not yet have their training courses defined then Trellis provides a ready library of online courses to support compliance, safety, or general skills training through its partnership with OpenSesame. This offers over 20,000+ courses which can be customized and delivered through the Trellis learning portal. Additionally Trellis integrates with a number of webinar vendors such as GoToMeeting to allow for virtual classes, as well as allows integration with a number of leading ERP & HR systems to allow analysis of the effectiveness of training as well any compliance requirements.

Customers for Trellis include Toyota, Axcess Financial, Deloitte, Kawasaki and CCH.

Main features and functionalities

Trellis Manage provides an easily customizable interface for learners that include a transcript of courses taken and available, as well as course related materials. It acts as the single point of interaction between learners and administrators for scheduling, course format delivery options and course assignment. There is also a facility to create certificate programs and an ecommerce facility to charge for courses online.

Trellis Author allows for the creation of online courses in a variety of formats and media, both customized as well as using pre-defined templates. The software also delivers courses via smart phone and tablets that allows learners anywhere access for courses they are assigned or have signed up for, so that they can complete their learning requirements at any time.

Finally the solution provides the Quantum 7 Development Management System (DMS) which is an ERP system designed for training and development organizations. The DMS enables companies to manage all aspects of the training development and delivery process, manage costs and demonstrate the Return on Investment (ROI) of training. There are also a variety of reporting options for both administrators to track course effectiveness and learner performance, as well as for the learners to track their course scores.
