Who are their main alternatives?

To make the right decision that fits your organization needs, it is essential to understand what other LMS tools offer. Also, it is important to get a tool that the users can easily use as a teacher and student.
  • Functionality: Google classroom is one of the potential competitors of LAMS. Google classroom is interactive as compared to LAMS. The video class feature makes it easier to have a complete online learning tool. It also offers integration with Google drive, hence, reduces the need for additional storage to maintain student files or information. However, it does have a lengthy YouTube & Facebook feed that makes it hard to review the old content. LAMS, on the other hand, does not offer such distractions. Canvas is another competitor for LAMS. Canvas is an open-source learning tool that allows the teaching through social interaction. It has all the learning management system features, including videos, grades, and courses information. The users can also connect it to YouTube and Facebook to support social learning. However, if the organizations are not looking into such integrations, LAMS is a better option. Apart from Canvas and Google Classroom, Moodle also is an interactive learning management system. In addition, Moodle is a cloud-based learning management system, which can be set up easily as compared to LAMS. However, the features provided by both tools are similar.
  • Pricing: The pricing for Google classroom is around $5 per student for a year, including all the features. There is also a plan for $3 per student for a year. However, the feature list is limited. The pricing for Moodle is around $1,490 per year for 1,000 users. The vendor does not officially provide the pricing for Canvas. However, given the price of Moodle and Google Classroom, LAMS is an expensive option.
  • Support: The support provided for all four tools is commendable. From video tutorials to live support, you can get an answer to all your queries within minutes. However, LAMS offers online community support, which gives it an edge over other tools.

What is the cost of LAMS?

The pricing plan for LAMS is based on what you prefer, and hence, once you decide what you need, how many users will use the system, you finally get to know how much you will need to pay. For instance, if you have 5000 dedicated users, 72 GB disk space, daily/monthly backup, 25 hours of tech support per year, and a 12-month contract, it will cost you around $9,995 per year. But if you are from the UK, the price is around 4,995 euros. It is important to note that the price might increase slightly if you have additional traffic on the system.
