Mercurial is a distributed revision control solution designed for businesses of all sizes. Other than design and development assistance, it offers support for multiple platforms and programming languages. The software was developed by Matt Mackall.

Other than its deployment in small tech startups, the software has been deployed in such industries as IT infrastructure, automation, financial services, manufacturing, software development, and others.

Main features and functionalities

Mercurial offers read/write access to developers via SSH. Anonymous access is provided via hgweb over HTTP. Mercurial clients offered by the software work for all major operating systems including Windows, Mac, Linux, and others.

Other than the new repositories, the software allows the import of existing repositories via normal Mercurial push and using Project Admin Interface, access to repositories can be granted or revoked. Other services offered by the platform include repository backups, mirroring, support for multiple repositories, and project administration.
