ServiceNow is an IT asset management solution for businesses of all sizes. It offers such services as asset management, compliance management, real-time prioritization, and others. The software was developed and launched by ServiceNow Inc headquartered in California, United States.

It includes an intelligent help desk to streamline support issues, a collaboration platform for knowledge sharing & issue discussion, and self service applications to track and manage all types of IT related assets in the organization. Additional features include asset & change management, support for service level agreements, as well as a workflow designer to implement internal service processes.

While ServiceNow also supports most ITSM features, it is delivered as a cloud based solution. The product offers additional features such as IT governance as well as risk & compliance standards, supplier service performance tracking, as well as a content management system for policies and procedures.

Then there is Cherwell Service Management which is available on premises and in the cloud. However it also allows integration to multiple third party applications, with an App Exchange which allows the collaborative building of complementary applications to be added to the product. The product supports all of the main ITSM features but its platform is entirely configurable so minimizing the need for product customization.

In comparison ServiceNow provides a similar application development platform with a knowledge base to handle process, product & technical issues. Additionally there is a service catalog to determine available services and cost, with a live user feed to determine current status of both IT services & operations related to specific users.
