Main features and functionalities

The volume manager features a file system recognition ability which identifies all file storage systems including recognition at the application level. It also features Windows Shell UI which ensures flexible and robust auto-play for unrecognized file systems. End-users can assign labels to different volume levels for easier recognition with the SetVolumeLabel function. Volume enumeration feature allows the complete listing of volumes on the system and manipulation of each volume.

Volume Manager allows determining the capabilities of different file systems before accessing directories on a given volume. It also features a change journal which is updated every time a change is made to a file or a directory in a volume. Other important capabilities include mounted folders and master file system.
