The technology used in their solution helps them to operate profitably on insurance commissions so they can keep their software free. What are their main features and functionalities?

Zenefits comes with benefits and insurance management, human resource management and compliance and payroll and taxes features. The new employee onboarding feature requires filling only 5 fields and doesn’t involve any paperwork. All the agreements are signed online, information like personal, bank and tax info are collected online, employees are added to the benefits and payroll and everything is stored online using the onboarding features. If any of your employee is leaving, you can remove them from benefits and payroll in just one click.

When your employee gets married, adopts a child or going through similar events, the dependent can be enrolled to employee’s health benefits, deductions can be changed separate and the tax withholdings can be also changed in payroll. The payroll and tax management part comes with contractor payments, automated deductions, direct deposit, state and local taxes, ADP, ZenPayroll and file 1099’s with IRS features.

It is available as a cloud based solution with mobile device access for both information review & update. However it also offers an open source limited features version of its product if required. Other options include resource scheduling for projects, document management as well as a reporting library for information management.

Zenefits on the other hand includes only core HR features, time & attendance, and payroll. It can integrate with current customer applications and includes both employee & manager self service portals. The product can also be customized to meet business needs is currently offered free to customers. There is also a benefits management module which is integrated with most providers and provides online enrollment and tracking.

In comparison Vista HRMS provides a solution which also addresses recruitment unlike Zenefits. Additionally the product supports workflow automation and is provided as an on premise, hosted and cloud based solution. The product’s analytic tools also include dashboard support for visual representation of KPIs which can be used for both performance & operational monitoring. Vista HRMS also has options to handle training as well as workplace safety & risk management.

Zenefits does not address these features but it does offer a stock options management module unlike its competitors which handles both review and disbursement of stock benefits to employees. Additionally the product includes a document management system to meet compliance requirements.
