NetBackup Appliance vs. Alternatives in 2024
Other backup appliances that can compare to NetBackup are the Arkeia Backup models, the Dell’s DR4000, the Revinetix models, the StorServer and the Tandberg Data AccuVault. In the list above the Dell’s DR4000 is the only one to fail to support (AES)-256 encryption. NetBackup and the rest do support it.
The highest raw disk capacity can be otained from the Revinetix which can offer up to 102 TB. By default the Symantec NetBackup models offer between 4TB to 32TB. They can be expanded though.
All of these appliances use Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) network cards. The Dell’s DR4000 and the NetBackup are ahead with options for a two 10 GbE ports per node. StorServer can also offer multiple terabyte transfer when the need arises.
NetBackup's data deduplication can happen either at the target or at the source. That is also the case with Arkeia and Dell’s DR4000. Revinetix models only offer data deduplicaiton at target. As for Tandberg and StorServer backup appliances, the data deduplication is at source.
