VMware View 5 vs. Alternatives in 2024
Two important competitors of VMware View are Parallels Workstation and Critix XenServer. Just like VMware View, both Parallels Workstation and Critix XenServer can be used for personal as well as commercial purposes. The features on three solutions are quite similar.Parallels Workstation, just like VMware View, offers only on premise deployment model. Its services include adaptive analysis, automated workflows, P2V conversion, VM restore and backup, and VM cloning. It also offers configuration mapping and configuration snapshots, both of which are not available on VMware View. VMware View, however, has comparatively more extensive workload management capabilities.
Critix XenServer has an edge over both other solutions in that it offers both on premise and online deployment models. In on premise deployment model, it supports only Windows platform. In core features, it provides asset management, configuration mapping, and thin provisioning. Latter two features are not available on VMware View.
The features offered by Critix XenServer are relatively limited compared to VMware View and Parallels Workstation. For instance, it does not offer extensive workflow management, storage acceleration, and virtual array integration. Security features offered by it are similar to those found on VMware View.
