Who are their main alternatives?

Hootsuite’s main competitors include Buffer and Socialoomph.

Buffer is designed to help users manage their interactions with numerous social media sites. It does this by providing one portal in which to create posts and then gives the user the flexibility to schedule when the posts are published and on which media. Additionally there are analytic tools which help to define which posts get most traffic on which media and also allow in-depth analysis of this information as well. Additionally there are plans that allow users to connect multiple user profiles per social media network.

Hootsuite also supports similar features but includes social listening as well. This enables users to monitor comments & conversations relevant to particular requirements. Through this feature conversation maps can be developed to track emerging trends & key followers, who for business users can be converted to leads and future customers as well. It is also possible to filter by location, monitor in different languages, as well as use dashboards to monitor important information.

Socialoomph on the other hand also links with RSS feeds to generate automated posts, and allows generation of posts via email submissions. There is also an option to schedule recurring posts, handle bulk posting requirements, as well as a “wipe your friends” feature to remove all followers when needed.

These features are not currently supported in HootSuite but it does provide its own social collaboration platform through which you can setup a team to manage the social media presence. This allows for information sharing, branding to be maintained across all channels and efficient posting as well.
